Waiting quietly,
my hair is combed,
in my Sunday best.
Patiently I'm waiting,
for the others to come.
Listening to their words
laughing to myself,
'cause they really don't know.

I see your face in my mind's eye,
and determine to keep waiting.

I like the feel of my suit
the silken tie at my throat,
the spiffy shine on my shoes.

I sigh, in exasperation.

Though I should be kinder, in my waiting
'cause I know you have things to do
before you go.
You'll be here, when you are ready.

I relax, and vow to be patient
as they close the lid,
as I hear the dirt thud on top.
I smile inside.
I can be patient, waiting for you,
'cause I have eternity.

Yesterday is ash, tomorrow is smoke; only today does the fire burn.

Hi
Waiting for something.. I felt it rightaway. To wait is unbearable...but sweet burdens can be born.

Sincerely

How sad,  reminds me of a song 'The Day You Went Away'..  My parents are elderly and Mum isn't well, and I worry for them for when one die's the other will just give up and join the first as quick as possible I think...
Scary and painful for anyone no matter what the age.
Death seperates us but it also makes us stronger,  it isn't them, it's the loving of them and whether they are gone or here, it stays with us forever..  At least we have our love and memories to hold onto....
Beautiful piece hon

I'll tell you this...... No eternal reward will forgive us now for wasting the dawn.....

What I like most about this is that it is the person who has died who is speaking and thinking, rather than the one left alone, as is usually the case. Novel approach!

Thanks all,

I was inspired by Brian Lumley's "Necroscope" series of novels (in as much as the idea of the dead still being sentient...)

Anyway, I'm glad the perspective was appreciated.
