When Will I Know It's Over ?
~*Marge Tindal*~

You said it was over.
You walked away.
Why doesn't it feel like it's over ?
When will it ever feel that way ?

I watch and I wait.
You don't return.
When will I know it's over ?
When will the fire cease to burn ?

It must have been easy for you.
You couldn't have any regret.
Why do I feel that I am left
with a love that I love yet ?

You must not have had the same feelings,
as the ones I felt for you.
When will I know it's over ?
When will I feel as you do ?

How does the Twelfth Of Never sound ?
Seems reasonable to me.
When will I know it's over ?
Will be an eternity.

DarkAngel~
It is sad when someone leaves your life and you're not ready for them to go.  It happens to so many ... and it's okay to hurt over it and to just keep them in a corner of your heart.
Thank you for all your sweet replies to my posts.  I appreciate you.

I think this is a feeling most of us has experienced. When faced with this question we tend to hang on and on...but sometimes, it's best to let go...I really like this one Marge!!!

Yes, it does have an air of sadness about it ... but then so does life sometimes.
Life goes on ... but we can still remember.

Glad you enjoyed.  Your reply reminds me of a poem I wrote entitled, 'Holding On To Letting Go' ... goodness only knows which archive it's in now !  Thanks gal.

Mario~
Thank you for the reply.
I personally believe that all relationships we encounter are 'meant to be' ... if only for the time we're in them.
Look forward to reading more of your work.
Welcome, again.
Goodness knows I've appreciated your comments.   You might want to visit the other forums also and grab some great talented folks at work.

I love the nice sharp edge of the last stanza, I can just hear the sacrasm in the words "the Twelfth Of Never."

Marge, it hurts when you can't understand when you can't find your feet to move on.  Why do we draw these painful moments out and not accept the inevitable truth???
Wonderful work, but then, when do I ever expect any less from you...

BrianM~
Isn't it interesting that you took 'The Twelfth Of Never' as sharp-edged sarcasm ?Actually nothing could be further from the truth, my friend.

I was listening to Johnny Mathis and his rendition of the song is so beautiful, that I take 'The Twelfth Of Never' as being a forever kind of place.

'I'll love you 'til the poet runs out of rhyme, until 'The Twelfth Of Never' and that's a long - long time.'
Now .... that's the way to remember !

Isis~
This wasn't a personal piece of my slice of life ... but I do believe that we do not have to let go ... we just need to move beyond.  I look at relationships as being something we hold onto for the positives we get out of them ... and move on beyond any pain.
Sometimes this poet takes poetic license in her feelings.  But, because I write from the heart I hope my writing reaches other hearts who need the validation that it's okay to remember.
Thanks for the reply, hon.

Well kid you have reached my heart with this one, I have felt like this with my X we had been together for 20 years, and even now when I see her old feelings come on strong. the twelfth of never, how true.

I howl a mournful song, that echos within my chambered heart, for all to read? nay for all to feel.

Marge,
First off, thanks for the welcome... such nice welcomes from so many...

And in regard to your poem let me just say, you have said my exact feelings in response to one whom I recently loved, (yes, an internet relationship) and who had logged out of my life completely when things seemed so wonderful. I do not understand how one person can do this to another... perhaps we should compare notes...

Luckily, bad feelings do ease, and another can step in, such as the wonderful person I wrote of in my first submission. And it gives me hope that all men are not so fickle... (sorry guys...)

Sweetheart ... keep the memories as they will serve you well.  When someone touches our lives .. they are worth remembering.
I believe that loving relationships are etched on the heart in that forever kind of place.

TravelingHeart~
Hon, I'm glad you found the poem interesting, but my philosophy is simply that people only 'do' to us what we allow them do.  I choose to remember all love with fondest regards for the positive feelings they brought into my heart.
As we move beyond the pain it's important to keep the good feelings to touch from time to time.

Illusion~
Thank you so much for your kind comments.
If I 'drew you in' then I've accomplished a feat that gives a poetess deep satisfaction.
I really appreciate your reply.

~Marge,...you're a wise woman.    You speak with such a strength and wisdom I appreciate you....you know that? hehe.  Move beyond...that is good.  What a great philosophy....holding onto the good memories to go back to them when needed.  Like you said you think that all relationships are meant to be,..atleast for the time we're in them.  We love and learn from each and every one.  Goodness Marge,...thanks for posting this and having such wonderful advice in your replies.  Thank you Mam. *Peace.

Indeed Marge, we learn from every relationship that we're in. . . but sometimes, isn't it good to know that it's over?  To hear the words?

I mean, I know that we can't wait FOREVER for one person, but I feel that hearing the words makes it easier to move on. . . and I know that there's not always a WHY. . . but I guess (for myself) I would just like to know that there's a definite end. . . this happened to me with my first girlfriend. . . one day, it was just over. . . but the words weren't there. . . I needed to hear them, but she didn't feel the need to say them. . .

Anyway, this is a great poem, made me think and touched my heart. . .

Sven~
I suppose we all have different perspectives on relationships in our lives.  I know when a relationship is 'over' ... but I don't have to let go of the wonderful things that made it special to start with.

I guess I'm a optimist in that respect.
I've loved many and been loved by many and have never felt the need to hear someone say, 'It's over'.  Like I said ... different.

Going on or 'beyond' for me is also knowing that I am who I am because of those who have loved me.  I choose to take those memories with me.

Thanks for reading and possibly seeing that a different light shines in my heart.
Love ya', my friend.

This one really got to me Marge, a little too close to home i think. It's not always easy to move on though, and I think that some people need that finality, an ending to allow them to move on.

Very true when you say that those who have loved us have helped shape who we are. So staying on those lines you would have to ask is it ever really over?

Great work agian Marge, it has provoked some discussion too.. I see that as a good thing.   < !signature-->

More words of wisdom flowing forth from your soul....
This is a wonderful poem.
I know exactly what you mean...moving beyond but hanging on to memory.
Funny...I was thinking about it only this
morning while I was walking to Piano lesson.
You put it so beautifully....
Thank you for sharing this with me.
I love ya Marge!

Love and hugs,

I found Passionate Forums at a point in my own life when a friend pulled away quite unexpectedly, I wasn't prepared for it, I was quite devastated. I nearly gave up writing. I felt as if I had failed as a friend, yet didn't see the blessings received by my friend and looked instead to the "loss" This poem truly shook me, even if it wasn't written from personal experience and I'm glad it wasn't, many experience this and this poem gives comfort and reassurance that everything shared is worth something.
thank you!!!

Hon, no one ever said it's easy ... it's just sometimes necessary for people to move 'beyond' their pain.

I've just never thought of any relationship as being 'over' ... just changed.  Might sound 'pollyanna-ish' to some ... but that's what my heart tells me is right.

If someone in my life is worth remembering ... I want it to be with kind and loving thoughts that I remember them.

Marcy~
Thank you, my friend.

Lil' Lizzie~
Sweetie, remembering is a gift that
loving people in our lives give to us.
I choose to have mine remembered in a
loving way.  I'm glad that you have those thoughts too.  Love ya'

Kathleen~
I can tell you that I understand with compassion and caring.  I'm pleased that this writing can give you comfort.
I sincerely appreciate your thoughts.
