A Great Day for All

It was a time of magickal lore,
It was a time when dragons did soar,
It was a time when kings were royal,
It was a time when knights were loyal,

It was a time when peasants would fight,
For the things they knew were right.
The king they did oppose,
As so the story goes.

For on this faithful night,
The peasants were sure to fight.
They made their demands known,
As they would try to remove the king from his thrown.

As they drew near his castle,
They wondered if it was worth all the hassle.
They thought of the pain,
The torture, the abuse of the kings reign.

“We must push on they did say,
For soon the kings men would be on their way.
But  little did the they know,
The king already had his men lined up, row after row.

Behind the castle walls,
You could hear the warrior calls.
They were out numbered ten to one,
The king was sure they would run.

But fear not, the peasants were smart indeed,
For they knew what they would need.
The Great Merlyn they did ask,
If he was up to the task.

The armies waited till dawn,
For they knew the darkness would soon be gone,
As the sun arose,
The peasants peered at their foes.

One after another,
They were all friend, cousin, or brother.
The king stated “I always get what I want”,
As he sent his men to the battlefront.

As the time grew near,
The warriors began to fear.
For little did the King know,
The peasants power was about to grow.

Merlyn cast a spell,
As the rocks and mountains fell.
A dragon did rise,
Oh, to the Kings surprise.

They heard the wind roar,
As the dragon would soar.
Merlyn summoned his beast,
And told him to prepare for a feast.

Towards the castle he flew,
As the warriors fear grew, and grew.
The King ordered his knights to stand guard,
As they waited for the dragon to enter the courtyard.

As the dragon flew above,
More eloquent then a dove.
He reared back his head,
And the warriors knew they would soon be dead.

An inferno he did make,
As the castle began to bake.
The peasants wasted no time,
For they knew they were in their prime.

To the castle they ran,
Across the bridge they did span.
Into the castle they stormed,
And what a massacre they formed.

For this was a time when swords would clash,
For this was a time when the magic would flash,
This is the time the common man would prove he was brave,
This was the time when a man’s castle became his grave.

I loved this one, because it reminded me of Ireland, and castles and the days so long ago, it took a lot of thought, very well portrayed, the ending was so true

I enjoyed this very much, thank you.
Joel.

I howl a mournful song, that echos within my chambered heart, for all to read? nay for all to feel.
