Just Think

When you slow the mind, the body cannot funtion,
The body rots and dies from lack of concentration,
Flies eat the putrid mass of spongy-sour mind,
Grounds are formed beneath the basis of your life,
Stupidity is passed upon those who do not listen,
Assumed mental ability is lost to wander free,
Leaching on to those inborn with capability.

Sometimes you merely trip and stub your toe.
Sometimes you fall to your hands and knees.
But sometimes you smack your head against the pavement and die."

Being a poet, Joel, I would hope to think you use your head wisely...lol. Sometimes my poetry reflected my surroundings; I was in an English grammar class and was constantly being harrassed by the teacher b/c no one else would use their heads. I wrote this poem thus afterward, and two years later it was put into the yearbook.

That time of year thou mayst in me behold, When yellow leaves, or none, or few, do hang, Upon those boughs which shake against the cold, Bare ruined choirs where late the sweet birds sang. In me thou see'st the twilight of such day, As after sunset fadeth in the west, Which by-and-by black night doth take away, Death's second self that seals up all in rest. In me thou see'st the glowing of such fire, That on the ashes of his youth doth lie, As the deathbed whereon it must expire, Consumed with that which it was nourished by. This thou perciev'st, which makes thy love more strong, To love that well which thou must leave ere long.
William Shakespeare
