Been reading things in folders, long forgotten, these past few days.
So hard to read the lines.
So strange that I don't remember, yet somehow
I remember writing every one of them.
Delving in to the tragedy of my first love
and all the boyhood trappings of those days.
Year after year presents itself on paper
in such a desperate and wasteful manner.
I was down and out, I don't remember anyone else being as far away as I was.
I read those ancient poems and I want to throw them away.
I don't want to believe I can be so weak and inoperable.
Sunk into a world of drugs and alcohol;
A world of make-believe where i hold some coveted throne of ignorance.
It just doesn't make sense; the metamorphosis I mean.
How can it be so dramatic?
But again, a caterpillar hides deep in a cocoon where he is no longer seen.
Within it he changes and develops.
Emerging, he is a completely different creature.
More beautiful and unique, full of a living mystery.
Yeah, I like that much better!
Fly away now, find your destiny.

This is very beautiful. Looking at our pasts can sure be painful, but the end of your poem told it all, now you are flying free.

You know it's the flight of the butterfly that counts not the landing.
Right on.
Joel.

I howl a mournful song, that echos within my chambered heart, for all to read? nay for all to feel.
