Hello all, this is my first post, so be gentle! No,I'm not always this disgrundled.  Just while cleaning house!

              How Many Times?

How many times can one person wipe the kitchen counters, clean the toilets, empty leftovers into the garbage?

How many times can one person change the toilet paper roll, is it really that difficult to take off that empty roller?

How many times can one person refill the ice cube trays, scrub out the bathtub, apply Shout to spots, empty the lint from  the dryer?

It seems so endless, useless,hopeless.

Who cares if these jobs get don't get done?

Am I wrong in thinking it is almost always the female doing these jobs?  Am I jaded from my years and years and years of repetitiveness?

Doing the same boring, stupid chores over and over and over.

It has nothing to do with love.  It has everything to do with thankless servitude.

A strike seems like a good idea.  Then I picture the mess, the calamity, the filth.  Who cares? I guess I do.

It's too engrained to stop now.

Maybe the next generation will get it right.

Or the one after that.

Welcome to Passions.
I can relate, how can I relate!! LOL
Just settle for this old saying, "From early light to setting sun, a woman's work is never done!"
They help once every 6 months and expect endless gratitude!! LOL  Though not all men are no hopers, my Dad is wonderful and since retiring he does half the housework/cooking etc!!  We can only hope eh?
Welcome

At last I have heard the song of enlightenment.... In your heart you can hear it now, if you listen....
It is the song your spirit has been singing since the moment of your birth. All lasting victories are won in the heart....

Welcome to Passions, Patricianne!

LOL ------well -- it is countless and
it is suppose to be a labor of love.

You have a few choices in this!

If I knew your situation better, could
give you many helpful hints on handling
your man and your children (if you have them)

Email -- and I will be happy to give you
advice --

Warmly,

I can relate to this also, yes even being a man.
I have lived alone for years, and do my own wash, and dishes. haha
I hit the laundry mat every week, and turn off my lights. I use the spot remover on ?? what ever. haha
Hell kid, don't give up on yourself, I'd say freeze his shorts in the freezer. haha
Drink a coke on his chair, and watch TV for the afternoon and ask him what's for dinner.
hahahahahaha.

I howl a mournful song, that echos within my chambered heart, for all to read? nay for all to feel.

Gee, I can relate. And I'm the dad in the family...wife, 17 yr boy and 19 yr girl, and I couldn't agree with you more.  I think if I didn't do a lot of it, it sure wouldn't be done!  I especially hate the empty toliet paper roll. That's always a killer.

Anyway...loved it.

oh, I would have been soooo offended(hurt, guilt,etc... )by this 3 years ago...

Ha, today I've got the three year old and sure, I've got a helpful man, but I am still the one......blah, blah, blah.

I agree with what you said about how it doesn't have anything to do with love after a while (like the first year!), and then it's thankless servitude.  And only now am I getting an idea of what  I was so thankless about!  So, cycles can be broken, bit by bit, generation by generation, and I think part of my job here on earth is to do just that...so, there's hope.

Thanks for all the responses. As a new kid on the block I was a bit fearful that my poem would just sit there, everyone ignoring because they couldn't think of a thing to say-boy, was I surprised.  I guess the subject matter hits almost everyone on some level. More to come.

patricianne, enjoyed reading this piece. Since i have a working wife, i do as much of those chores as i can.  Who decided that it was only the woman's job to do the house work.  The man lives in the house also.  I'm really good with a vaccuum cleaner and an iron.
~~nice writing~~

Hi Danny, Yes, who indeed decided that??!! I always hope that women who are with guys who truely do their share can appreciate them. My man has trouble finding the pants he took off the night before! I'm not kidding! Thanks for the reply.

I can relate to the cleaning.  I live with my mom but she doesn't ever clean some times i feel like a maid that never gets paid I don't even live with her.  I only clean and she never even tell me thank you.  Your poem was great and Welcome.
