Ever since her prince had ridden away to war,
Her sleep was tormented by dreams of horror and blood,
Each night Princess Brianna fought the inevitable,
The endless nightmares that did flood.

She always found herself wandering amid nightmare fields,
Fields of impaled bodies and amputated limbs,
She saw the maimed soldiers faces,
Oh, their eyes! Blood shot rims!

Eventually she had to speak to them,
Offer comfort and caring,
Then to her horror she saw him!
A mangled prisoner, it was her heart, it was him!

Her beloved was the mangled prisoner,
She fell into deepest despair,
She watched as his blood ran from his wounds,
She couldn't stop the blood, her beloved, how unfair!

Her young husband, love and prince,
He her world and she his,
He fought for her and their God,
Why must it end like this?

The vision of her love dying,
Could not be endured or avoided,
She stuggled to wake, to end this misery,
Yet still she was held within the nightmare's murky depths.

She tried to tell herself it was all a dream,
She would wake, there would be no news,
No news is good news isn't it?
He would return her beloved, her muse.

The only certainty that Brianna had,
Was that their world was filled with death and terror,
She prayed tis not her fate,
To be another soldier's wife in mourning.
