I stand here before your grave
The feelings come in a big wave
Washing over my soul
As the tide continues to roll

Silently I kneel before you
Knowing what I have to do
I ask for your forgiveness now
As my head does slowly bow

Forgiveness to you this day I give
It would have been your choice to live
Things did not work out that way
I'll never forget that fateful day

It was a simple phone call
That led to my eventual downfall
You were very sick I know
The time had come for you to go

I stood beside your deathbed
My heart pounded in my head
Your hand I did hold
Remembering your heart of gold

Watching as it beat its last
I know it happened very fast
As I said a prayer for you
Wishing that it wasn't true

This is a very sad howl, I have sat upon this very bed and lost so many friend, this week alone one gone, and one to live 6 mo.
I feel for this loss. It is an old text for me.
Joel.

I howl a mornful song, that echos within my chambered heart, for all to read? nay for all to feel.

Joel,
Yes, it was a sad howl indeed.  It is about the death of my mother.  A loss I feel to this very day.  We were very close.  Sorry to hear of your loss this week and in the past.  It is always hard to say good-bye to those we love.  I, too, feel for you.
LW

I know this feeling LW, I get it when I think about my father... and that was 22 years ago. ..

Excellent poem...

I'm sitting here in a puddle of tears.  My mother died also.  Your poem struck back many memories.  Well done.

Sven....Thank you.  I know the pain you feel when you think about those you love who have gone on.  Very tough to deal with at times.  Sorry for your loss.

Kari....Here is a kleenex for those tears, hon.  Sorry that your mother also died.  It is a pain only those who have experienced it can relate to.  These are memories I will have for the rest of my life.  Thank you.

Excellent poem LW, very sad.  I am very close to my mother and I dread thinking about her passing away. I see your poem as a sign to enjoy every moment we have with loved ones.

My parents are in their mid 70's so I know what time we have left together is all to precious, I dread losing them both.
Still Lone Wolf, you had a chance to say goodbye, that is all any of us can hope for, to be there with them, say goodbye, say a prayer.
I feel for anyone who has lost someone, I lost a beloved uncle a few years ago, still miss him terribly.
I'll finish with a movie quote, 'I Don't Believe it is our loved ones that make our lives, but the loving them that does.  That love you have forever...'

A heart and soul are not judged by how much you love, but by how much you are loved by others...

Daniel....thank you!! Glad that you see the time that you have is precious and should not be wasted.  Will not last forever.  You are lucky to be so close.  Cherish these times....they are special.

Isis....you are fortunate to have been given this time to spend with them.  The time is very precious and it is a hard road to walk when you lose someone so close to you.
Yes, I got to say good-bye.....barely.  Almost didn't make it to the hospital on time.  My future husband was there for me and I don't think I could have made it without him to lean on.
I too feel for those who have lost someone.  It has been almost 8 years for me, but seems as if it were yesterday.  Sorry for your uncle.  He does live in your memories though.
Thank you for the reply and quote.  Very nice.
