You whispered in the dark and called my name,
turning my head searching for your presents,
and finding a reflective sense of you the same.

Slowly you fade as I desperately grasp the last fading likeness
searching my empty hand with remembrances of long ago,
an old man walking the beach dropping to his knees bawling
like a baby bearing his all to the world not a pretty show.
reaching out to the fading sun as the last rays of light set.

‘Twas the first time I had ever seen a man cry
this hidden boy of the woods stayed still didn’t breath, did hide.
This moment of pain for the old man passed, he walked on.
he carried his self back up the beach thinking his pain was safe, all gone.

Now as I walk this beach in later years, and time stands still
a brief recollection of spent tears, the pain overwhelms me
I drop to my knees, and bawl like a baby  needing a pill..

Hoping I’m not the center of attraction, thinking I’m alone
hoping there’s not a small boy lurking within the Forrest
seeing an old man crying upon this beach that I’ve shone
yes old men cry.

This was hard.
Joel.

Oh Joel this was so sad, reminded me of the song by Mike and the Mechanics 'In the Living Years!'
Wonderful works..

I read this and cried. The other day I was lost downtown, terrified and I began to cry, hundreds of people around and I hoped I would not be noticed, wanting to drop to my knees and disappear into the curb.
Feeling like a child in a woman's body with so much to say and not knowing which path to take. Shaken, I made it home and then today read this, an it lifted me.....because we are not any of us...truly alone
thank you

 Kathleen
