In a fight for her life
A young girl struggles on
Trying to keep the faith
Yet leaving love behind
Keeping herself from others
As so many now do
Locked up in her dark room
She tries to take her life

So many times
Have I felt this way
Escaping all end
By a mear fragment of hope
Staying alive physically
Yet, mentally,
Already gone
Away from hope

Life has a way
Of changing all that's real
Taking all that keeps us here
And leaving us with nothing
That day, I did not succeed
And it's probably good I didn't
I've learned life's lessons
In all I've done since then

And before I tried to take my life
I lost all I had left
Seven friends dead in a car accident
And without dreams,
I surrendered
Please don't let the shadows
Break across my heart
Go on living, when all is lost

 Hope,

This was me at 13, and the shadows tried to break across my heart and steal my words,
Now at 49, I find my way into the sunlight, and the years in between not wasted for it is flowing now....
Let the sun shine through your poetry.

This was a very beautiful poem. Its funny how sometimes a devestating thing in life can either break you or make you. In this case it did both. I am so glad that the "young girl" then, did not succeed but rather found strength. I myself have had a really bad life and what I have learned from it, is how to be strong and that indeed THERE ARE BETTER DAYS AHEAD. Thanks for sharing!

When I was 15 or so, I swam so far from shore it was a thin line
I was going down I tried to make certain of this, but the higher powers
had something else in mind, an old fisherman with a boat from nowhere
pulled me out, like this young girl she to has purpose.

Good work here.

Guys, this is probably going to shock you, but I'm only 15.  I just realized that life is more important, and good things will eventually happen.  I still have way too many years to be so depressed.  Thanks for sharing your stories with me though.
