They say,
"You have a gift"
"Don't be scared you have a gift"
I am scared of my 'gift'
I don't want to have this 'gift'
If they only knew
My 'gift' tormented me every day
Walking on eggshells
Everywhere I go
If they only knew my little 'gift'
could kill me
If they only knew my sacrifice
They say,
"You have a gift"
"Don't be frightened of your gift"
If that is so, then why
when I wake up
I am terrified?
Sweating cold, wet rivers
Awakened by the sound
Of my 'gift' returning
For a midnight ride
Shaking hands I turn the knob
of my bedroom door
Running through the hallway
Seeing nothing but the blackness
But I know that it's still there
My 'gift' coming to haunt me
Even in the middle of the night
Don't tell me not to be afraid!
I've still yet to find the light
And when I switch it on I feel
The scream tightening in my throat
Terror rushing through my viens
But yet through all this I am still
Through tear stained eyes I peer...
DON'T tell me not to be afraid!
DON'T tell me not to be scared!
DON'T you understand?
I'm trembling from this 'gift' burning inside of me
Trembling with fear.

joy
this is a powerful, and emotional piece
very well written and expressed,
your words and emotions lifted off the page with your fear.
very well written
take care, jm

Do you live by the book, do you play by the rules
Do you care what is thought by others about you
If this day is all that is promised to you
Do you live for the present, the future the past...

Joy this was great!  I'd like to know the gift you speak of too.....   It is dark obviously.   This is one of your better ones hon

Thanks Angie, Creature, Janet Marie, and Isis.  I didn't write this about myself if you can believe it, but I wrote of a friend.  I couldn't put it in second person, but first, as if I were the one experiencing this terrible fear.  And I wish I too knew what the 'gift' was but I don't.  It will remain a mystery, but I can see how you all can be so curious!  I'm sorry.  Thanks again.

Very powerful piece.  Its strange that something that seems so terrifying can be called a 'gift'.  Gifts are normally things we like to receive.
