FIVE YEARS
By: Amy M. Kennedy
-This poem is dedicated to my Mom, Linda Ann Kennedy who passed away in 1994. Mom, God bless you! I love you!

Five years has gone by, time sure flies by
Never for a minute did I think I'd have to say goodbye
Through the last five years so much has changed
People have, situations have, but my love for you has not
You gave me my foundation, my very life as I know it
I would be nothing without you
Everyday I try to live my life as though you are still here
I feel your presence wherever I go
I can not see you or hear you
But I can talk to you, and I know that you hear my voice
When I see a falling star, thats you winking at me
When I hear the wind that is you sighing
When I look outside and see nothing but blue sky
I know that you never left my side
And while I know all of those things, still oh how I miss you
I miss your smile, the warmth of your hand, your hugs
I miss how you use to tell me "never give up"
I just want to take the time to tell you two very important things
I love you, and thank you
Thank you for being my Mom, my best friend
Thank you for showing me how good life can be
But above all, thank You for showing me what true love is
As I spread my wings and go out into the world
I hope to accomplish many things, to be my best
But the achievement I am most proud of
Is being your daughter
No matter where life takes me, no matter where I go
I will never forget you or the love you showed me
Ten years of sweet bliss, memories of the past
Forever wrapped in our hearts
One day, I too shall leave this Earth
And reunite with you in heaven
Until then I shall live as though you are still right here
For I know you watch my every move, and are with me everyday
Not physically, but in spirit, and for now that's enough for me
Five years...how the time has flown
Full of ups and downs, and all the things in between
But one thing remains consistent and will forever
My love for you

beautifully touching tribute, I'm  sure your  mom is looking down with tears in her eyes at the way you captured words and turned them into such a wonderful poem

Beautiful,, loving tribute here, I'm sure your Mom has tears in her eyes, tears of proudness at how wonderful and caring and sensitive you turned out to be.
I hope when I pass on, my son thinks of me this way..
Bravo!!

May the world hug you today,
With it's warmth and love.
I pray it whispers a joyful tune in your heart,
That tell you there is a friend sitting in another corner of the world,
Wishing you well and
wishing you love......

Amy-girl...
you make your "momma proud"...this is SO sweet and loving...as are you...I bet it runs in the family (smile)
you inspire me...
take care, jm

Now for me some words come easy
But I know that they don't mean that much
Compared with the things that are said when lovers touch
You never knew what I loved in you
I don't know what you loved in me
Maybe the picture of somebody you were hoping I might be

         "Those we hold most dear
           never truly leave us
They live on in our memories,
        in the kindness they showed,
          the comfort they shared,
         and the Love they brought
             into our lives".

Wonderful tribute to your mother.

You guys are so sweet!!! Thank you so much for your lovely comments. The subject of my Mom is a delicate one, but with you guys its easy to discuss through poetry. Thanks for making me feel so welcome and wanted.

you made me think of my own relationship with my mother which seems to parallel with yours.  i don't know what i'd do without her for she is the wind beneath my wings.  i can definitely see where you are coming from.  beautifully written.
