The House On The Corner

The house on the corner of the hill
brightly lit all the time as I notice,
it has a haunting tale told about it
that people believed about it still.
Where those unwilling to believe
what they saw happening around
their homes and their property near
were subject to strange disappearances
only seeing reality could relieve.
They say it only happened at dark
and usually around the full moon,
the first to disappear was their car
a green BMW 735 never to be found
as never did they hear their dog bark.

Towns people talked it was stolen
by a group of rowdy teenage thieves
targeting the richer neighborhoods
and they would never begin appearing
before the bewitching hour of ten.
The night of the cars disappearance
the house was brightly lit as I saw
and the car was there one minute
then gone within the blink of an eye
I wondered how within just a glance.
We had a shared community driveway
so it would have been seen driving by
but not this night did I see a sign of it
after it disappeared out of visions eye
this spooky dark and dreary Friday.

Their dog disappeared another night
as the neighbors were gathered together
at their house for a 40th Birthday party
and the moon was bright with fullness
making the whole neighborhood bright.
Once again it was a see one minute
gone the next minute disappearing scene
as everyone searched through the evening
looking everywhere and coming up empty
trying to figure out the real culprit.
Now we all began fearing the next event
wondering what could be the disappearance,
no one wanting to admit their own doubts
as to the real truth behind these illusions
and the consequences that they present.

The house on the corner of the hill
brightly lit as I see all of the time
tells a tale of people not of horror
as so many neighbors would believe
and continue to carry the tale still.
The people who live in this house
are in the business of magical illusion
making things seem to be realistic
when they are really so far fetched
that when revealed you see a louse.
Only a few neighbors figured it out
so the tale still gets spread around
like wildfire in a forest to new comers
who continue to be intrigued in wonder
until even they will also begin to doubt.

Very interesting tale LD! I was hooked from the very first line...nicely done!

take care,jm

Now for me some words come easy
But I know that they don't mean that much
Compared with the things that are said when lovers touch
You never knew what I loved in you
I don't know what you loved in me
Maybe the picture of somebody you were hoping I might be
