Well this is about my great grandfather, Walter Edward Tulk.

In 1874 Wyrallah New South Wales,
Young Walter Edward Tulk was born,
His mother aged 49 died whilst having him,
Leaving his Dad so alone and forlorn.

Walter often missed his mother,
Raised by elder brothers and sisters,
His father always in the fields,
Coming home late at night covered with blisters.

Walter wondered about his Dad,
Was he once happier than this,
He hardly laughed or smiled at all,
He knew it was Mum that he missed.

Maybe Daddy blamed him,
For Mummy going to heaven,
Things have never felt truly right,
So often their hearts were leaden.

Grown to manhood at last,
He worked at cutting timber,
In and around Wyrallah,
It sure kept his body limber.

He also worked on dairy farms,
Having grown up on one he knew the ropes,
But he dreamed over moving on,
Starting a new life with new hopes.

He worked his way further up North,
Along the way he met his future bride,
Mary Ann Webber was her name,
In her company he could be himself, no feelings he had to hide.

They married in 1895,
And journeyed further up North,
In the 1920's with 7 children,
They moved again to Mullumbimby.

My grandfather and Great Aunt Marie,
Grew up in this old homestead,
Mary Ann and Walter sold the home,
The kids were all gone, they wanted something small instead.

Walter was semi retired,
Kept himself busy with odd jobs around town,
Mary Ann died in 1955,
Walter alone for 10 years before he went down.

The farm is owned by the Johnson's now,
Old Roly Johnston knew my great grandfather and his kin,
I'd seen the farmhouse all my life,
But only in 1999, I actually went in.

I stood in my great grandfather's home,
Basked in years of history,
Wandered down by the sheds and the creek,
A dream fulfilled for me.

I had my husband and son with me,
My son stood in his great great grandfather's home,
That is no small accomplishment,
For so often old homes are torn down.

My father is still alive,
He holidayed at this home as a child,
He longs to visit again,
Relive his youthful ride.

My Dad also remembers Walter,
Smoking cigars in the kitchen at night,
Always a joking and funny man,
With him everything felt so right.

I'm glad I visited Walter's home,
Stood surrounded by history,
My personal pilgramage through Tulk time,
Photographed and documented for it's such a special story.

May the world hug you today,
With it's warmth and love.
I pray it whispers a joyful tune in your heart,
That tell you there is a friend sitting in another corner of the world,
Wishing you well and
wishing you love......

A very special story Isis!  I'm so glad you've decided to share all your sagas and family history with us.  I know I enjoy hearing about it.  Also makes me want to find out more about all of the stories my family must have!

*hugs*   i loved this series.  it shows alot of history.  i love history.  you are very lucky to know so much about your family.  i know hardly any about mine.  all i know is that i have family all over this earth.  oh well.  i did like this one though.  it was so nice and a change of pace for this dark forum.  sometime we get to far down that we cant get up.  but sometimes all it takes is a little sunshine like this to help us look at ourselves and realize that we dont have it as bad as we think.  great work.  *hugs*

Then it comes to be that the soothing light at the end of your tunnel is just a frieght train coming your way...

A name for all ages i suppose

And a great series of poems

there is great power in history it could prove greatly advantagous in seeing the future in the acts of predecessers.

But i am of course enjoying all your poetry not just its content but its majesty.

Doesnt that sound strange

brilliant never the less.

Pride of place in the human race goes to one without a trace,
of subtlety style ego or grace for this position, I wish to say, i would be proud as i am greater than any other face in the crowd

Thanks James, Jesse and Walter.  It took many years of research to get all the information we have, but worth it for future generations.

May the world hug you today,
With it's warmth and love.
I pray it whispers a joyful tune in your heart,
That tell you there is a friend sitting in another corner of the world,
Wishing you well and
wishing you love......
