A MILLION MILES

Two thousand miles seemed closer
Than the distance across this room.
She didn't close the door behind her,
I can still smell her perfume.
I don't know how to reach her,
Everything I say sure comes out wrong.
Can I ever make this right for her,
This love I've waited for so long.

I'd sell my soul just to hold her,
But I feel her slipping away.
The dreams that set our hearts astir
Slipping to yesterday.
Tomorrow's path, uncertain,
Comes a cold chill to the bone.
As Fate peels her curtain
I find myself, again, alone.

I could smile if she were happy,
But even there I've let her down.
I've only added to her misery
And made myself the clown.
Maybe it's best given to grace,
There's nothing left to say.
For finally we stand face to face,
Yet you're a million miles away.

Michael so sad hon.  How awful when you feel this way.  (HUGS)  And you know I mean it when I say I am here if you want to talk.
The poem as usual was beautiful, the reader feels your pain.

Let your heart guide you. It whispers, so listen closely.

Oh how great those distances can seem between two people sometimes. I'm so sorry things did not work as you planned Michael, I know how it can hurt. Love is an odd thing sometimes. I'm just glad to see you posting, even if it is your pain. Please don't shut the people who care about you out.

another sad, but beautiful, touching poem Michael...this is very well expressed and I like the distance and miles comparisons.

"Two thousand miles seemed closer
Than the distance across this room.
She didn't close the door behind her,
I can still smell her perfume."

...excellent...

Sigh -- so sad ... it tears at my heart to read such downtrodden poetry after what was supposed to be the trip of a lifetime ...

Beautiful work, as usual.  I do not know you personally, but I wish you the best all the same, Michael.  Fate can sometimes seem cruel but you must remember that Her vision reaches much farther than our own.  Things will be as they should be.

Full fathom five thy father lies,
Of his bones are coral made,
Those are pearls that were his eyes;
Nothing of him that doth fade
But doth suffer a sea-change
Into something rich and strange...

I feel the pain and hopelessness in every word. Hope things will turn out the way they are supposed too.
