AFTERTHOUGHT

I look back on the line we've crossed,
Soul, thrashed upon and tempest tossed.
But nothing remains there to see
Beyond the chains of memory.

Yesterday's gone but ne'er forgot,
Misery spawn, a demon caught
That fills the eyes with greed and lust,
Sweet spoken lies and betrayed trust.

Forgiveness just an aged caprice
For those who must find sweet release,
But ne'er do find reality
Within such blind a fallacy.

Knees to chest in fetal embrace,
Where lies rest in this hellish place?
Eternally her shame I keep,
Infernally ne'er ‘gain will sleep.

Emotions spent but ne'er the pain,
Passion still pent upon this brain.
The price I've paid to touch her skin,
Ever inlaid, my brand of sin.

The dreams we shared, a fading muse,
By Love declared merely a ruse.
By Time misplaced, by Fate forgot,
Ne'er ‘gain embraced, an afterthought.

Michael - this is really thought-provoking, and very well laid out.  Remember, only the past sees what we've done, and only the future sees what we'll become.  hmmm... there's a poem in there somewhere.  Welcome back.  I'm glad to see you posting again.  You've been missed.

You use words so beautifully. Especially liked the ending.

You paint a picture clear as life itself Michael, this was a privilege to read. Excellent work.

I am not a poet, I am merely one who speaks in emotion
