I sat down at my computer today and as I often do I thought of my mother.  Wendy died when I was six years old after being diagnosed with ovarian cancer.  I treasure my memories of her and this old house that I depict.

The soft carpet the color of a rose
The piano whispering a song
Hide and go seek is the game I chose
Your nights out were so long

Hugs and kisses when you got home
Blankets tucked up tight at night
Like the sun your lullaby shone
Rose my dreams up out of sight

Morning birds out on the maple tree
Breakfast scenting up my room
Watching cartoons on the tv
Happy am I - I would assume

Then there came that awful day
Your life was ticking like a clock
Doctor said you'd go away
Leave your family - leave your flock

I watched you in that cold cold room
The darkness hid your pain
You fought out til the end I know
Cause your smile - it remained

The sad thing is it didn't hit me
That you'd leave me here so young
The worst thing it is shot me
The agony piercing like a gun

Mom get out of that box
Come read me a story please
Help me find my missing sock
Cause these tears to cease

Oh no,don't lower mom
Into that musty ground
All I want is a lullaby song
Not this fearful frown

Daddy, he can't take much more
He cries every night - I can hear
The tears are washed a shore
He'll choke on those tears, I fear

The world goes on and everyday
I think of my wonderful mom
The impression left won't go away
The feelings are too strong

I love you mom with all my heart
Wish you could hear that now
One day we won't be apart
I pray for that somehow

Kari,
this poem moves me to tears...Im so very sorry for your loss, no one should know this kind of pain... but sometimes life gives us these things...we may never know the ,but for you to be able to be so strong and wise and to write this beautiful tribute to your mom...is so very touching...I know she is very proud and cherishes this poem and you. You honor her love with your memories and words. very nice. Take care, Janet Marie

 ..."She says baby,
It's 3am I must be lonely,
When she says baby,
Well I can't help but be scared of it all sometimes,
Says the rains gonna wash away I believe it."

I'm sitting here in tears. This is a powerfully touching poem. I couldn't begin to imagine the pain of loosing a parent. This poem puts forth clarity of such a situation.

Kari it makes me sad to sit here and read about how you lost your beloved mom when you were only six years old.  It is amazing that you have lived with all this pain and yet you also have  all those precious memories of your mom and your love is sustaining you and  gives you compassion and hope.  This is truly a wonderful poem of love and caring you have written about your mother.   James

Kari, How gutwrenching.  (HUGS)  so sad for you to have to deal with that cruel twist of fate.  I could feel that six year old's grief.  Sad subject but well done for depicting the young Kari's pain.

Let your heart guide you. It whispers, so listen closely.
