Down in the land of Conformity,
There lived a race of fools,
And one able bodied rebel,
Who chose to keep the rules.

He lived among the mechanical ones,
The shiny cold machines.
He walked the systematic path,
And followed their routines.

All his life he longed to be,
Among the living and the free.
But doomed was he to never see,
Life outside of Conformity.

Escape, he thought, would be so sweet,
To gain control once more.
To walk the pathway of his choice,
As once he did before.

He grew excited at the thought,
Of freedom from routine,
But the machines invaded his dream,
He felt the urge to scream.

He held his tongue in silence, though,
And kept it all inside,
It would not do for them to know,
He wasn't satisfied.

For they would surely punish him,
For daring to defy,
There was just simply no way out.
He sat alone and cried.

Only follow, never question.
That's the golden rule,
And you will be a king someday,
But ever still the fool.

Sanity is the playground of the unimaginative.

Can't believe in that golden rule, but I like the theory and the poem

Let your heart guide you. It whispers, so listen closely.

I thought this flowed so beautifully.
I enjoyed the read very much

This surely did have a nice flow. And I understand the feeling.  It is an unfortunate thing that we do live in a world where conformity tends to reign. Very nice piece dreemr.

This is so true dreemr.  It made me think of a time when I was working in a factory.  I had thoughts about changing the way we did some things BUT NO I was to young to know anything.  Its hard to change peoples minds on things or there ways.  All I know is I will never not listen to anyone on there thoughts.  I loved this in everyway...Great Piece
