What In This Life?

What in this life, which I so scorn,
Has offered naught, save pain and pain?
To pull me down, my will suborn?
To mark my heart with doubt’s dark stain?

What in this life, life forced on me,
This life I live in constant rage,
Has brought me aught but misery,
All in this time, our darkest age?

What in this life, filled with no hope,
Is proof ‘gainst death’s compelling pull?
Where living is the “downward slope,”
And peace lies in my coffin full?

What in this life, o’er none too soon,
Can cause this aching heart to mend?
There’s naught to cure, grant this boon.
So I await this, my life to end.

Dang, Chris, I think you and I are on the same wavelength again.  Great poem, I feel every bit of the pain.

What can I say?  This hits home, hard.

Hugs, my friend

Then I'll be drinking from the saucer 'cause my cup has overflowed.

Jeez, you see what a week without internet service will to to a guy??

But seriously, my friend, I hope that this was simply a creation of your fancy and not the signs of an emotional overload.

If it does in fact reflect life, I hope that this writing helped to exorcise it, and I remind you that my hand is always extended in friendship.
