SANITIZED

Truth is negotiable.  Reality, perception.
Love, merely fable.  Life, misconception.
Darkness delivers Death unto the eyes.
The ritual renders incantations of lies.
Where an unborn carcass, pristine and chaste,
Is laid to her grave marked "contaminable waste".
While mother walks freely to celebrate life,
And reality wipes the blood from the knife.

You see the child in dream, but you turn from the sight.
Your emotion run wild, but then that was your right.
The wraith of the wicked, the curse you invoke,
By your own words inflicted, blood on which you choke.
In your sanitized bed, lift up your hands to pray,
But hear in your head, the words which you say.
For the child murdered never had a voice,
And, indeed, her father never had a choice.

So scream to the God's for your justification,
That Peace somehow overcome humiliation.
But to your own grave may the pain ever sear,
"Our" daughter would be thirteen this month, this year.

Abortion is sometimes more devastating to the would-have-been father than the mother. Powerful emotions to this.

Now and forever, my heart hears ~one voice~.

The thing of which you speak is always a painful choice, but one wonders whether it should be a choice at all ...

Powerful, poignant verse.

Michael this hit home almost to much.  As for a year and month has passed in the hardest decision in life a couple faces.  I feel the father has a voice in the matter though.  I will never go a day without saying what if?  Sad Sad Sad poem....Bojopy

I'm speachless.  Your words and emotion touch deeply and dearly.  I am sure anyone who reads your poem and listens will find tears and thoughts to search their soul with.  Thank you for risking sharing this out in the wide world.

I liked this one, Michael.  Your descriptions are amazing.  The most powerful line for me was "And reality wipes the blood from the knife."  Excellent poem conveying such a painful event in your life.
Great way to end it also.  It really brings it all together.

Micheal- I don't even know what to say. This brought tears to my eyes. I know some people who have made this same choice and I don't know how they live with it. I truly felt the emotion in this. You are right, they will have to face God, and He shall have the final say.
