I awaken, screaming, shaken
Brain on fire
Stuck in the mire
Of a dream too real
I still can feel
The spasms of death
My last rasping breath
The flash of sun
Report of gun
Lying in a hole
On another soul
Bullets plow through my back
Bodies falling in stacks
But some aren't dead
Though we've been painted red
They slam shots through my head
I know not how but I witness all of this
The pain. Their anger. Death's forever kiss.
I'm somehow alive, even in its embrace
Why are we victimized? Where is the grace?
They don't speak my language. I cannot speak theirs
Uttering loud staccato pops, they see through crosshairs
I try to shift my arm, but I can't feel it
It must have moved, for again I've been hit
These men, these monsters, stand on the edge
Of our death pit
Like a many headed sledge
To strike, to slay, to slaughter with no reason
We've been struck down, taken out of season
A political act? Conquest? A lot of maybes.
History repeats itself, weep for the babies.
My sweat coats
My body like
My blood in
My dream.
I shudder in fear,
Alone in the dark,
Alone I screamed.

This piece brings some horrifying images to mind for me.  Excellent imagery as always, D.B.

Very painfully real images. I actually cringed reading some of this. Great piece of work.

David...anger and questioning becomes you.
This style is too cool too

Thanks, All!
And welcome back Jenny! Your Hospital and Child of Earth were Godlike in their intensity for me.
