AWAKE


I try not to feel it,
I pretend it isn't there,
All these new feelings I have,
I tell myself I don't care.

It's like being awakened from a decade long sleep,
I feel awake to everything around me,
I see everything with new eyes and new hope,
A way of being I'd forgotten how to be.

I long to hear your voice,
To laugh with you again,
In your company I can rejoice,
And find shelter from the rain.

I can make no promises,
I can give no guarantees,
Can't promise my tomorrows,
Life comes without these warrantys.

So seek comfort in the knowledge,
You've got a friend for life,
Someone to ease the lonliness,
Someone who'll hold you tight.

I'll be there to listen,
I'll be there to lend a hand,
I'll always be around,
I'll always understand.

Perhaps, all this was fated way back at the start,
Perhaps this thing wasn't meant to be,
But with your love in my heart,
My heart at least is free.
