SOCIETY'S CHILD

The table's set in neglect.
Time, itself, loads the gun.
Another mother's reject.
Another fatherless son.
Eyes stare off into nothing.
Dreams, platonic and stale.
To realize your parenting
Is based on a check in the mail.

So many would be dad's who've beat you,
While mom just looked the other way.
It's always been your fault, that's true,
That none of them would stay.
You've grown up "dirty", treated like trash.
But then you've known no other course.
So you fly high but when you crash,
No-one's offering remorse.

Your peers call you the Loser,
Your counselors won't waste their time.
Mom's got herself a new abuser,
Yet, somehow, caring's your crime.
A price too steep for a teenage mind,
The wounds may ne'er be reconciled.
When pain runs all emotion blind,
And the trigger names you, "Society's Child".

 Michael Anderson

It's the little things you take for granted,
That'll mean the most to you when they're gone.

'Tis ashame that society treats our furture in such a way. Strong words Michael and a strong subject as well.

BRAVO Michael!!

This is truly an inspiring poem. . . I cannot even find the words to tell you how I feel. . . the future is ours my friends. . . what will we do with it?

Michael, so true, so sad, yet inspiring.  You've done something, we should all do a little something.  I have before and will again.  Our future is dim if we don't look after the children.
Wonderful inspiring words my friend.

The more you praise and celebrate your life, the more there IS to celebrate.

Unfortunate, but this hits all too close to home.  I hang my head in shame all too often, for my bad choices - all I can do now, is try to make it better before it's too late.  Thank you for sharing such a touching piece...I'm glad to bring it back up, in hopes that more read it...
