In some midnight alley a drainpipe dips in time
drip, drop, dipitty-drop-drop, drip
cars like loose valves hiss by through wet black veins
An alleycat man lies on brown paper looking up,
into the yellow eye of night
"I like it here in the heart - where its hard and lonely and alive"
a sharp dressed guy walks by, head groundwards
"These alleys are like eddy's in the river,
they swirl"
Angry sounds of honking horns drift lazily through back streets
a siren wails, forlorn
"If you listen, man, you can hear it churning,
fast huh?.........
Yeah, it's all churned up"
firehydrants glimmer in the moonlight
below
a sewer lurks
Enourmous
beyond everyday thought
past the paths of consciousness
In the vapour trail
