What's happening in the world,
Why do worry as we do?
Why do we focus so much on ourselves,
Haven't we got anything better to do?

Take those poineering days,
They didn't have the time,
To focus on their innerselves,
To sit there and whine.

They had bigger worries,
To house and feed their families,
Sometimes wondering where the next meal would come from,
Or if Pa didn't cut enough wood for winter they'd freeze!

Perhaps modern civilization has brought TOO much about,
We've much too much of everything,
Somewhere along the way,
We lost sight of the important things.

Friends and family,
Food, a roof over our heads,
Enough heating or cooling,
To be comfortable when we go to bed.

We have our health,
We have good food to eat,
We are not alone,
We don't sleep on the street.

We now have such abundance,
We've forgotten the basic things,
In which perhaps the secret lies,
Where we'll be happier beings.

I'm guilty of it too,
I'm the first to admit,
And hopefully if we see the error or our ways,
We can do something to change it.

Thank you Isis... for right now, when I seem to be blinded to these simple things as well by my emotions and stress, for giving me this little reminder of "its not that bad" You put a smile on my face when I needed it most Great job... great message... great work!

Isis,
Very good and very true.  Simplicity at its best!!  Great poem.

Thanks Daniel for going into the bowels of Passions and finding this old poem.
Glad both you and Lone Wolf liked it

It's some times funny to look back and see where we were, and where we are now.
Our ideas change and our moods. gain new friends and loose some old.
You said something to me about not really knowing you. Well I think we do. and we have met you the true you, not the show, Thank you.

Some poems, like some jazz, speak to us speak to us of the happy as sad.

Some jazz, like this poem, speak to us as the happy is the norm.

No Problem Isis, I'm really glad I did look in the past postings. I have found some really good poems.

Isis, seems that a trip to "the valuts" might be in order for a lot of us!!

Excellent poem. . . even if it was written a while ago, the thoughts still hold true today. . .

Thanks everyone
But Joel, the show must go on, is this really me, true or false?
