If I died today,
What would be left behind?
Photos, artifacts, memories,
And a big treasure box of mine.

Inside there is many a precious memory,
Badges earned now all rusting,
Faded, yellow musical scores from my youth,
Pictures, postcards, journals as proof
my soul is trusting.

Newspaper articles, a chip from the first casino I visited,
Poetry too, written in my teens,
My first baby hat,
And a token representing some special moment that's been.

I love these things and treasure them,
But I can't help to imagine,
What would a stranger think,
If they gazed upon my lifelong creation?

A gifted woman with achievements?
A lost soul clinging to the past?
When she felt she was worth something?
Or a typical teenager living hard and fast?

The whole scenario makes me wonder,
If all those memories mean so much,
If my existance has even made a difference,
To any life I may have touched?

But when I'm old and grey,
I'll still have my even more filled treasure chest,
I'll meander through life's memories,
And remember the times that were the best.

Sounds like your treasure box and mine have a lot in common, Isis, each memory complete with the question..."Did this mean as much to them as it did me?" Wonderful poem.

Thanks Michael, I don't think anyone really understands the why of the things in the box....
