PEACE BELOW

Behold the waking water's stead
Holds no resemblance, high nor low,
To the quaking hand of the dead
Withering breathlessly below.

The dim lit moon o'er starry skies,
The echoed sentiment of Fate.
Cold look of Death soon on the eyes,
All in due time, for now must wait.

A calloused touch, a weathered heart,
Forgotten will, the soul still breathes.
For in so much, known well in part,
I shant but feel my own disease.

A litany of ill-timed thought,
The price paid to uphold a name.
Beyond the still of Damien's lot,
I serenade your cross of shame.

Lo, in the waking water's stead,
Where pain subsides, where love won't flow,
The breaking mist, (kiss of the dead),
Confides in me the peace below.

And so, being young and dipt in folly
I fell in love with melancholy,
But dreams - of those who dream as I,
Aspiringly, are damned, and die:

And a really good repost at that Michael.
A litany of ill-timed thought.
Excellent.

Litany jumps at me as well, Jen.
Michael, well struck.

He grew away from old associations and saw something new in life and humanity. Secondarily, he made close acquaintance with phenomena which he had before known but darkly - the seasons in their moods, morning and evening, night and noon, winds in their different tempers, trees, waters and mists, shades and silences, and the voices of inanimate things.

Awesome, Michael. I loved this. One question, though,...Damien's Lot...is this the "Damien" who gave shelter to the lepers that you speak of?

D.O., yes the Damien I refer to is the Catholic "father" who ran a mission of lepers. I see you did your homework. Thank you for the reply.

Thank you, Jenny, D.B., and watcher, also.
