DAY BY DAY

A light far off in the distance,
Leaves me lost in its shadow.
Reaching it's not worth the chance,
When you have no path to follow.

A dream I was once proudly chasing,
I now contently let fly on.
For reality's not worth facing,
When the innocence is gone.

So as my heart now beats hollow,
And my mind slips into a void.
All I ever do is wallow-
On events never enjoyed.

Time for me is in a stand-still,
Though I watch it silently unfold.
Or maybe I've just grown to ill,
To feel myself growing old.

But why, day by day, on the fringe,
Should I lay emotion on the line.
When for ten bucks and a dirty syringe,
I know I'll feel just fine.

I hear you my friend and though it's call is sweet, the needle lies. Admittedly, the Dark's own seductiveness continually tears at the corners of my own conscience trying to lure me back into it's numb embrace, but I, like you, choose to go where I will.

Darkly done my friend.

I'm not even gonna reply to this....I don't believe in letting oneself slip so deep that you choose self-destruction. I feel it's a sign of weakness....No one in here has to agree with me, because I know you won't, but I for one never thought I'd see something like this from someone so strong. I pray this is fictional, Michael....as you know, you are always in my prayers...

Femme,
You know me better than to think this was about me I hope...As bad as me depressive moods are, you I would never go there. It is about someone who used to be a dear friend of mine but has slipped beyond reach.
'Tis a very sad thing to witness, especially when your friend doesn't even realize who you are anymore.
Thank you all for your comments and concerns, and no- Serain, this isn't my own portrayel, just one I've sadly witnessed.

This is deep! I knew that wasn't you, had a doubt but I didn't think so. Sad to hear it is someone you know though. It is a painful thing to watch someone slipping like that. Well done Michael!

I have been unable to contact a friend in Miami for a while now. His path is the same and reading this will cause me to redouble my efforts at reaching him. If you're out there Donald contact me please.

Thank you all for the replies on this, I hadn't imagined this piece would draw that much attention.
