Bloody horrors are strewn throughout,
limbless bodies and headless corpses about.
The grass is soaked deep with blood,
honed bayonets opened the gory flood.

A lone soldier stands afraid and cold,
the triumphant victor, watching, so bold.
He killed his foes on this dark, bloody day
Now this battle is over, and he must pay.

The dreams float across his sleeping eyes,
dreams of fallen comrades allow no respite.
The images of innocents killed haunt his soul,
their cries of terror honed, never dull.

This hero's in his hell, there is no escape,
afraid to rest, the nightmares won't break.
The politicians called and gave the war cry,
they decided this hero must die.

Very powerful.
Could almost be like a Cival War battle!
I like very much!

Boy toy,
I found this an extremely powerful piece.
Great use of allusion and imagery.
