Through blistered hope and calloused dreams she flies,
a cancerous face full of living decay.
Her visit induces nightmarish cries,
on a childhood that sleep fills with dismay.

A lurid visage grotesquely decayed,
her face gleams wet with the rawness of rot.
Dripping pestilence leaves the child dismayed,
fearing the nightmare in which he is caught.

Empty, soulless pits gaze out upon the child,
drowning him with a glare of stygian night.
Horror lends allure to this thing reviled,
becoming a curse to Medusa's sight.

She appears in phantasmagoric dreams,
unpredictably hunting down her prey.
Knowing her face to be more than it seems,
trapped in visions the child begins to pray.

Dessicated lips peel back in a grin,
dripping putrescent saliva in ropes.
She is mother to every deadly sin,
savagely devouring all the boy's hopes.

A barbed-wire scream tears out of his throat,
waking him to the terrors of the night.
Behind his eyes the nightmare seems to float,
as desperately he lunges for the light.

Once again Lady Despair came to call,
just as she would for nearly sixteen years.
Over the boy's life she cast a dark pall,
becoming matriarch to all his fears.

Quite a horrid tale cast here Dream. It is magnificently spun with the perfect words to descibe such a ghastly occurance!

"drowning him with a glare of stygian night."

Masterfully written! It just sends creepy pictures of hellspawn flitting through the dark crevices of my brain!

Jeeze, Dream,
I give you a simple psychotic phrase and you turn it into the Mother of all Darkness.
Awesome piece here, you have more than met the challenge.

Awesome dream, awesome..a truly gruesome, disturbing tale. You cover both ends of the spectrum (this being apposed to your beautiful love poetry) wonderfully, my friend.

She has not paid me a memorable visit in quite some time, still I rememember her visage in perfect clarity.
