Shadow twists in the night
As some sense calls
An unheard warning
And another statistic
Falls to the floor
Black red in the night
Mingling with rain water
As dark as the deed
In this monochrome orange world.

The last cry still echoes off
Silent sentinel walls
As the pockets are searched
For the plastic prize
And a few hours of freedom
From the pain
Of a solitary life

Helpless nights,
Hidden days
Huddled in a frozen sheet
Awaiting once more
The escape brought
By the anonymity of night.

The victim moans
As the world shifts about him
Shorn now of fiscal props
His place in the light
Stolen by a blow to the head
Leaving him umbling incoherence
From his crumple heap,
Another drunk to be avoided.

Wow Robin,I must admit I had to read this one several times to get the abstract.!!

From what I understand, this is the description of a crime done in the anonymity of night..right? (pl correct me if I am wrong)

If it is what I 'think' this is about..its a good challenge to the reader..

May I ask the what prompted this piece??

Wow!! This one kinda took me by surprise. I expected it to be about abortion or something like that. Very good!!

Thanks both, glad you liked it.

What inspired it?
Blue mood mostly, but also memories of seeing people shambling about looking drunk and wondering if they were. What brought them there?
That tied up with the opening line which was buzzing around in my head. The one drifted towards the other quite nicely.
I am very glad to say, this was NOT personal experience.
