I am sad and lonely, but never bitter
I wonder if "true love always finds a way"
I hear two lovers laughing
I see their footsteps in the sand
I want to feel sand beneath my feet once more
I am sad and lonely, but never bitter

I pretend my pillow is my lost love in my arms
I feel her stir softly against me
I touch her soft warm skin
I worry that I will never be more than an empty shell
I cry for true love not allowed to bloom
I am sad and lonely, but never bitter

I understand that dreams do come true
I say that I felt happiness not long ago
I dream of her sleeping safely in my embrace
I try not to get emotional and upset her when we talk
I hope that she understands this is a true rendition of my feelings,
not a cheap attempt at emotional blackmail,
I am sad and lonely, but never bitter.

This is my old version of the poem. For the new version, see the open forum. It's like English A-level all over again...

1) Compare and contrast the two poems entitled "I am" by the hopeless romantic poet Eric Williams. (25)

hmmm I just read that again.... hope it means I'm a hopeless romantic and not a hopeless poet *8) Ah well, I'll leave semantics to those more in the know!
