my hands gently parting
the curtain of jungle vines
as I catch my first glimpse
of a temple
untouched by life, these so many years

so tranquil
a restful haven
amidst the jungle's fervor and heat

I see there before me an altar
stained with the blood of a thousand sacrifices
dark, yet with your blood too
shed by my own hands
as sure as I had clenched the knife
as sure as I had plunged the blade
into your heart

I gave you up
as a sacrifice to the gods of love

I poured your life blood
upon the altar stone
I chanted the death incantation
I sung at your burial
and my tears ran at your
sweet, trusting smile
as the life
(the life you gave to me so freely)
slipped from you
in a shimmering pool of blood

Wow Izzy, quite spooky, yet lovely all the same - if I were Eric, I'd stay out of the jungle for awhile!

Eric will be reporting for duty to the jungle today, the same as every other day. OK so I might get stabbed again. So what?
