Here's a poem I wrote ages and ages ago, but I think it fits into this forum rather well, so here it is!

Sad Puppy.

Puppy settles down to wait
Alone by misstress's front gate
Cocking up an eager ear
Strained for footsteps drawing near.
Slowly realising she's late
He thinks of when he last ate
The food of her sweet voice's touch
the nourishment he needs so much.
He sits and wonders as he waits
Morosely by those wooden gates
Does she still love him as before
Or not need Puppy any more?

Taken as it is, the story of a puppy, it's very realistic! They say dogs don't know if you've been gone 5 minutes or 5 months - it's all too long for them.

But the deeper meaning is sad - don't we all sit and wait sometimes for that one person that can give us what we need? Good one Eric!

Well Eric,
Suffice to say I have felt like this puppy at least once in my life. Deeply sad, very touching.

Very well done Eric! Pleasant images mixed with dark themes, nice contradiction, very effective.

Can't a puppy be too loyal sometimes...when the master doesn't even deserve it?
Just a thought..Izz

Puppy points out that he loves his mistress, and that she deserves the very best. Puppy sits up and begs and says, "Please mistress, come home soon and let me love you! I'll wag my tail for you, and let you scratch behind my ears and I promise NEVER to pee on the carpet!" Puppy looks at you with puppy-dog eyes.

PS: have you been to "The Alley" lately and cast your vote for "on a roll"?

Having 6 dogs,I can relate. And yes they don't care if your gone 5 minutes or 5 days.Their always glad your home. Now if I can only find a man with the same qualities as my dogs!
