Delicate creature of the night
Shimmering in the gentle light
Of satellite that shares your name
You’ve beauty all would love to claim.
Your time upon this earth is brief
But as you rest on simple leaf
The loveliness that fills our eyes
Helps some of us to realize
That there’s strength in fragility.
Even if we’re destined to be
Around for just a little while
We should show elegance and style.

For PIP's resident moth... with great gratitude. *S* Thank you, JM!!!

Smiling at you...

The luna moth is one that I have always thought of when it came to our resident Moth...

And this is a fine tribute to that wonderful person/poet/friend...

a beauty my friend - and one really has to see them in life to really appreciate them, don't they?  Especially the size - I mean 4 to 5 inch wing spans are not what you normally expect in a moth.

Mercy!  She is going to just adore this, and you have nailed so many things about JM's character especially the strength in the fragility.  I also have to tell you that is one beautiful moth - guess Canadian moths didn't quite get the same good looks

Thank you all so very much. *S* I'd been waiting for words to go with a picture I'd taken years ago... JM's kindness as I've grieved for my cousin deserved more than a private thank you... it was inevitable that this one be hers. *S*

jwesley: It is an experience you never forget, isn't it? *S*

Jan... I'm so glad you liked this... Thank you again for the tree that has memories hanging from every branch... and the book that keeps on giving. *S*

All through my teen years, I was a collector -- but one beauty eluded me. Yup, never found a Luna Moth, and that was the one I wanted most. Like the moth this poem is dedicated to, it proved beautiful but elusive -- or maybe I just didn't know how to look.

Jamie: I've seen only a few... surprise gifts on balmy evenings. *S* So even though I know they're life span is short, I'll admit to being swamped with sadness when I found only the wings of one a month or so ago. *S* Thank you so much for reading! *S*

Truly your words capture the delicate beauty of this creature and so much more.

Suthern beloved one, My word darling one your writing as no other describes beauty, which frankly I’ve failed on numerous occasions to appreciate. However with the clarity of your writing, the beautiful combination of words and the wonder of your image and I see it burst before my eyes and it is wonderful.

YOU, the writer of this utterly beautiful piece are as always incandescently wonderful, and yes I do speak truly.
