Again and Again

Grief is resolute

Ululations of agony
Do nothing to deter its course
It is deaf to wails

No matter how often
This heartless bore
Has walked with us before
It permits no respite
But elbows in
An opportunistic parasite
Sitting on our shoulders
It turns feet into lead

Suffering is its calling card

It tosses future plans
Into cyclones of disbelief
Anticipation is merely chaff
Settling out of reach
As poignant cries of why
Echo into a universe
That gives no answers

Its path is inexplicable

Unbearably familiar
It is different with each visit
But never welcomed
Except by the few
It has managed to convince
Pain is all that’s left to feel
To prove they’re real

Churlish, inconsiderate
It can only be avoided
By those who never care

....and of course while I'm glad you decided to post these, know also that they make me sad....because this insight could only come from experience.

PS: Thank you! *S*

Ratleader: I would spare you sadness, my friend... but we both know you're right. *S* I'm not sure 4 and 6 would have emerged if I hadn't been assured the words still had quality... Thank you so very much!!

Enchantress: I'm so sorry you know this fiend so well... Big hugs and many thanks!!

-----------------------------------

those lines encompass it all too well...

"It can only be avoided by those who do not care."

The last great line to a great poem; deserving lauds.  *smile*

JM: Yes... exactly... that title makes answering the phone a thing to fear. *S* Thank you very much!!! *S*

iliana: You chose one of my favorite lines... to be one grief cannot touch is reason to grieve. *S* Thank you very much!!

Many thanks to Ratleader for tightening this up... if I've grown as a poet, I owe it to your willingness to teach. *S*

most certainly does...
and for once I don't know what to say except
my heart and prayers are with you.
