Just A Farmers' Market In Avila Beach

it’s simply not the produce
     smooth-
            skinned,
                 organic
nor even the shaved ice booth
    sending its
           pinkish
                dribbles
                      down faces
                          and pavement
or the multicolor bunting of
                other people’s
              children
           squeaking
       about
    the sunlight
all around the edges of this day
                      not fish
                  tacos or
              green
         touristas
    dodging
gull poop along the worn-out pier

it is the waffled sound of a thousand
                    effervescent
                conversations
             of neighbors'
          talk on the
     benches
blended syllables of simply everybody
     served up
           with
              powdered
                  sugar
                     sprinkles
so that even strangers any other day now
                           are sudden
                      friends
                because
          today is
and they can’t be anything else

I've stayed at Avila Beach...I hear that it has been rebuilt because of a water surge a couple of years ago.  I loved it...the old town...a place that served wonderful food, and music...and a couple making love on the beach late at night covered by fog.  It is a magic place and I can see it again in your words.  Thank you for taking me there.

This is beautiful, my friend... your words lead us gently down the page of sheer enjoyment... coming to rest at the truth of how circumstances bring us together... If only this entire world could share that companionship... because today is. *S*

This almost dances down the page...
thanks for the smile!

Something tugs at me, I've no doubt of that.
Something from the sea, whichever one I'm near.
When I stray too far from beachland, it calls me back

I always begin reading your poetry with an air of expectancy and anticipation of where I will be transported to. I don't just read your words ~ I experience them!

I love going into town to our Farmer's Market.
The smell of fresh fruit and vegetables.
The smiling faces and the laughter mingling in the air. Also here we have an old Cider Mill. It is a yummy place when the season of cider rolls around. The aroma of apples being crushed. The smell of fresh donuts in the making and people bumping into each other and smiling as they skirt around each other.
Love the picture you have painted here RL.

Hugs

I visited a great farmer's market this morning... and the purple onions, yellow squash, green cucumbers, red tomatoes, etc. made such a lovely picture I thought I must surely inhale the very atmosphere... NOT a good idea for someone near a stall where chili peppers were being ground. *G*

So... my sneezing self came home to enjoy the vicarious... and safer... joys of your visit! *S* Poetry vs. peppers??? There IS no choice! *S*

I haven't thought of Avila Beach in many a year, but the memories are great.  Thanks for this.  KJ
