Scars

Scars,
some seen
and some unseen,
all thrive,
never truly healed
in this hero loved.

Perhaps death
would have been kinder,
more humane,
even palatable
in some regards.

Regardless of age,
regardless of scars,
I shall not forget
that they were meant
for all of us.

Scars are always painful, always haunting, and it seems they always bleed, even when the skin has grown over...
but to have them as a symbol of lives saved is an amazing thing. Heroes hurt, but they keep so many others from pain...
I beautiful tribute...

Most of all, to heal in an optimistic embrace. Well done.

This is so true....scars stay, even the unseen ones.

Powerful piece. It reminds me of a phrase I really like..."turn your scars into bars"

like the stripes on a soldiers sleeves or the bars on a lieutenant's shoulders.

Whether on the shoal or on the shore,
I'll seek the lighthouse evermore.

This is so sadly true.  I cannot fathom how brave our men, women, their friends and families are in serving for a better world.
Thank you for sharing this.  I thank them.

i know this feeling all too well.
scars were never meant to heal, they are alwasy just there as a reminder of what mistakes we have made,or the happiness we had once apon a time..thats why they are in all of us..i think your poem captured the essence of the pain that comes with life, and the scars that follow.
amazing.
