                    Ephemeron II

                    So many times I  have
                    forgotten this poem
                    Forgotten the lines
                    I composed
                    and quietly rehearsed
                    Forgotten the association
                    with the routine
                    of fixing yet another breakfast
                    with the rhythm
                    of hoeing my weedy garden
                    or with the boredom
of steering along one more commute

                    This invitation to my unseen
                    nakedness museum
                    seems so important
                    but somehow I fail now
to point the pen and unroll the ink

                    Another one is thus lost
                    like the half-sleep idea
                    born very late at night
                    which I am certain
I will recall clearly in the morning

                    The lines are there
                    but then they are gone
as though in the maze of my being
I have forgotten where I put them

                    or have I hidden them?

                    Perhaps like the regret
of the bad dreams I wish to forget
I should not be asking the question

Failure comes by the hour . . .

Hi Krawdad!

I have written some of my best poetry in the middle of the night, sans paper and pen.  I sure know what you mean.  It's good to see you!

Krawdad -- loved the title and related very much to your writing -- just yesterday...the same thing happened to me.  I even stored the one line idea on my computer, but can't find it now. lol.  Enjoyed reading!   .....jo

sir...
you are a master poet
and i bow to you
words at times escape
but there are things
that are here today
that will be here tomorrow too

I had the same problem.  Most of my thoughts and inspirations come when driving to or from work.  I would complain that all of my thoughts would swirl around my head while I was driving and then be forgotten when I arrived.  My wife bought me a little hand-held voice recorder.  Now, if something comes into my mind, I press record and speak it.  Then when I have time.  I dictate to myself and type my words into the computer.  Then I put it together.  Sometimes it's a whole poem.  Other times it's just inspirational words, thoughts, sentences to build on.  Nonetheless, it has worked well.  Something to try?  And, yes, looking back, or when I don't have my recorder I relate very well to your poem.  Frustrating and laughable at the same time, isn't it?

Oh, I can relate to this all too well, Krawdad. So many fleeting thoughts that fade into oblivion, though often I'm sure that I'll remember them - to no avail. I'm glad you captured these words before they drifted from memory. Very much enjoyed!

Best wishes,
/Kit
