If you were here, Dad....
Oh, but never mind, you’re not.
You only lingered in the etherland
three years, and now I can’t
reach you anymore.
Cannot tell you about my children
or show you how I’ve grown.
Cannot call to say I love you
for all the things you’ve shown.
So I write this poem for me tonight.
I know with whom I share.
And I tell myself I love you dear
for the living part of you is here.
I think I’ll call my sister, Cathy,
and share these words with her.
Because there is a part of you
that is living in her, too.
I won’t forget my mother,
or my other siblings, two.
All of them are mirrors of
a little bit of you.

Dixie - yes it is.  Father's Day is always hard though it's been years since Dad passed on.  This year, I'm trying to look at it differently.  Thanks for reading.

Aw, Jo, this is so sweet and lovely.  I'll treasure it.  Just to think there is a little Dad in us...what a potent thought!  And you, dear sis, probably are most like him.  He would be proud.  I love you.

Passed on? Yes.  Gone? No.  The greatest gift of parenting?  If you do it right, you live on...well beyond your years.  Immortal.  Unforgotten.  Transcending time.  Alive in the hearts of even those who have never met him.  Life after?  Yes, for a father there is life after.  Your tribute does not fall on deaf ears.  Very touching poem.  As a father, I sincerely appreciate it's message.  He must have been quite a man to be so honored with the deftness of your pen.

Beautiful jo, and he sees you, knows your kids, and is still a part of your life.  I know this to be true.

As a father who saw none of his children today (because of great distances), I, for one, will cherish your words:

"All of them are mirrors of
a little bit of you"

thank you so much for sharing...it helped me remember my mirrors...

More than a little of him in you
Half of each in the bunch of his children
All good persons and kind
And that is exactly what I’d expect to find.

I believe he watching
And knows (probably tells everything to Santa),
Sure he is proud ( bragging to everyone on his cloud).

Fine tribute

Jo, you're right... the life of a great man is lived on through the love and lessons instilled into those around them. I can see there is a part of him that is alive and well in you

Jo, my eyes are welling with tears at the beauty of your loving and sentimental words. Just from my getting to know his daughters (You and Cathy (Sadie)), I know that he must have been a wonderful man!

~ and this heartfelt poem helps keep his memory alive! I'm sure he's smiling down at you!

Loving hugs,
Linda

I like the way you look at things now and the way you expressed it here. Hope it helps writing it down.
