The Little Princess and the King

There once was a little princess
Long locks of honeyed brown
A smile of sweet innocence
Dressed in a tousled silver gown

She lived in a far away castle
In a land of rainbowed dreams
And there lived with her a gallant man
Her Father, the most beloved King

When the King would come home to rest
After a long day of courtly rule
She would race to jump into his arms
And he’d cuddle his precious jewel

At night, she’d nestle upon his lap
Wrapped in the arms of his loving strength
As he stole her breath with exciting tales
Of dragons and ogres and wraiths

And when her eyes would flutter shut
The little princess falling to sleep
He’d carry her off to slumber’s rest
With a tender kiss upon her cheek

And when the sun would rise again
To kiss the day anew
The little princess never feared
For the King was good and brave and true

He cared for her; he kept her safe
He blessed her with mirth and glee
She never knew a worried care
For the King was as a King should be

So Father dear, my first true knight
On this day that speaks of such
Your little Princess wishes to say
I love you oh so very much.

Ericc and Passing Shadows, thank you.  I gave this to my dad today for Father's day tomorrow, couldn't wait.  I guess the little princess in all daughters never quite grows up.  He is a fine man.

I love your writing style.  It's more like watching something unfold on the silver screen.  Your imagery is always so clear.  Your fairytale poem was delicious.  I enjoyed every word of it.  Read it twice!  A very nice Father's Day gift for an obviously good man.

Warm regards to you and to him,

Kevin

Kevo, thank you.  Perhaps all the years of writing stories plays into my poetry.  My Father liked this very much.  And thank you, he is a good man.
