Once upon a midnight dreary
as I sat down for the eve
there came a faint telling rapping
that I hardly could believe

It was that bird, that nasty bird
upon the fence post tapping.
This noise, I wish I’d never heard
came from his place of sitting.

I grabbed a light and found the gun
and shucked in a shell or two.
For it would be me to have the fun
for I knew my aim was true.

I drew down slowly on the post
where the bird was debating.
Some Double Ought would make him toast
and feathers would be flying.

But as I took my careful aim
I heard a noise behind me.
It was that rap, but not the same
for it sounded so lightly.

A pair of them, is what it was
one in the front chiding me.
Two ravens black in feathered fuzz
the second one in a tree.

Now this was hard, a choice to make
for one shell is all I had.
I’ll have to wait for them to shake
and boogie down, bein’ bad.

But the night, the cold chilling night
did not bring two birds to mate.
Another time, another flight
would seal these two ravens fate.

Oh, you'd go nuts here...we've birds aplenty - in fact, I've never seen such a feathery year!  It must be a combination of the weather and overactive hormones or something - we're about 4-1 from previous years...it's a danged [ahem] jungel out there!!!
