Your words bottlenecked
While looking down at the floor
Not in my eyes
Dropping my handicapped cries
You grew tired of the painting
Selling all voices in the park
And that one smile, on the rose arbor
From the little girl on your wall

I gathered the happy ones
My silent mission
Was to run 6 miles every day
Taking a shortcut past your home
If only in my mind

I remember your breath behind me once
The baby Grande piano swinging to our voice
Passers-by looked at us and smiled
Leaning forward handing us roses

Remember the man consumed by desire
Although he wouldn’t admit it
Remember our souls flying
On those long summer weekends

We were homeless but content
Daydreams suspended
Sights and sounds revealed the surprise
On our yacht of likewise

Now something greater becomes me
Fostering a career drinking mint tea
Hand picking apples
From a magic tree burning music
Open-minded memory
Becomes my Tuesdays

When I hear the cicadas I think of you
Or shells along the ocean smiling, swinging their arms
Each day begins with a new journey
Curiosity has returned, with that hunger for knowledge
Because I remember you
I catch mayflies, where storms moved
No longer walking in the rain
Lowering my dimmer, thinking about classes ending
With a smile...mature contented and advancing
I close my eyes for one more glance
and there you are, your big smile & coal black hair
with the white aura
waving Good-bye...forever
Now...in her arms...

I'm a little sad, but more so, happy for your sucess

The title confused me as it seemed so simple for such a complex weave of thought and sacred memory.

But the tone of resolve, resignation and lack of bitterness conveys your title most astutely Lee.

I found myself nodding and thinking, "yes, that's exactly what it's like..."

Somewhat sad, somewhat joyful, grace & strength.

That's exactly what growing up should be.

Well done.
