Listening to every heart

Pier Pressure

you would think there
would be no
pressure
to
experience
from the height
of the pier, looking over
the cobalts and
emeralds, a
sun
out
there
in the
distance
setting alone
leaving crystal
fragments on the blue
comforter for me to
pick up in my
indulgences

but
the pier
feels the pressure
of the waves
daily

as
they
come and go
back and forth
release and persist
bringing along
tranquillity
strangely
met

and
it is not
without some
merit that waves
move sand and rock and
emerald-olive growth
for it is against
that very
movement
the barnacles hold
bracing fast against the
quay

but the salt sea
holds thereon
in time and
therein within
the very post
upon which
the pier is
made up of,
applies daily
pressure and
force, night
and day, the
ebb and flow
egress and
regress of
minute minutes
pressuring
pressuring
in slow laps
and waves of
tropical
hurricane

until the post
is aged away
with time of
centuries.

so while you exist
today with peer
pressure, do think
of

pier pressure

and know you are not alone.

Sunshine, you never cease to amaze me.  This one carried with it the essence and rhythm of those waves battering up against the pier (it's even laid out in waves) -- I felt it!  And I feel it!  Great, really phenomenal poem!  And, thank you for sharing it!   ....jo

karilea,
you never cease me!  Again, when I think there can be no better writing than your last post, you send up something this to prove me wrong!  Love it!

LOL@Toe...
Loved this write Karilea..
much like the ebb and flow of the sea.
Hugs~

Something tugs at me, I've no doubt of that.
Something from the sea, whichever one I'm near.
When I stray too far from beachland, it calls me back

You described it beautifully,  with all of
the images that helped my mind see that
pier, ever bracing against the pull and
push,  the wash....the lapping waves...
gently yet forcefully until finally one
day the pier stands alone...the dock long
since rotted away...a sentinel standing
guard...

K, this one made me grin.
I love the way you swept us away with waves of (pure) peer/pier pressure.

A great message in this, Karilea! Yep, yep.
And my kind of poem (oceans and piers and all)!

Hugs,

Corinne
