Somewhere Anywhere, Where?

Is there somewhere anywhere a place for me?
A house is the easy part, a place to be,
I want a home within the world, a history.

I know where I was born, where once I married,
But I have no idea where I'll be buried,
A tiny part of the loneliness I've carried.

My ancestors had language, culture, art,
But I inherit nothing, born apart
And raised in other places from the start.

I've tried to study books about my past:
In me that house of cards will not stand fast.
I'll have to build my own, so it will last.

Sometimes, this is what most of us have to do.

I perceive, not only in your writing, but in many poets' writing of late, a sense of lost histories, just as you have stated.

Perhaps, and most probably, it is because we have lost a great number of our storytellers to the modern technology of wires and gizmos.

And that, is very sad.

Good write, Kazm.  I think we do have to build our own, but it doesn't hurt to find out about our culture and our ancestors, too.  I really enjoyed this.   ....jo

I'll have to build my own, so it will last.

That's really all any of us can do. *S* I like this very much... I think our circumstances are very different... but with no descendants and few ancestors left, I know what it is to feel adrift, wondering if there's a place in the universe that's truly home for me.

Your work is so excellent... I wish you had the opportunity to post more often... you'd develop quite a following! *S*

A sense of connection with your past would be nice.  Wish I had one. Wish I could advise you.  This is a very good poem about that feeling of disconnection with the circle of life.
