Late Night Musing
By Larry Chadwick

In the black of night when the lights are out
and there is no conversation to be had
nor images to be seen.
I think of you.

On the dark screen inside my eyelids,
I see you
and in my heart I hear you.

Almost I felt your hand
slip into mine when it was three.
And the ache of my heart is comforted
by sensations that daylight shines away.

Lingering near the lullaby of you
sings me to sleep.
Again, I am sustained by the memory of you.

Forever, you are twenty-eight in my mind.
But now and then you are younger.
You would not complain, I know.
Nor do I.

June 15, 2004

If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane, I'd walk right up to heaven and bring you home again.

Hi there Larry, it's been a long time. I know why you wrote this. The grief doesn't really ever fade, does it? But the memories are beautiful too.

Larry, I feel so much compassion and love for you whenever I read your expressive and moving inner thoughts which you express so poetically.

I do not believe that I ever shared this with you, but my daughter is a teacher and she majored in English as did your daughter.

One day she came on the site and read several of the poems and then said to me, "Mom, I really love how this Larry writes." I feel connected to you as does my daughter. God bless you, my friend.

She is forever going to have re-runs on that black screen behind your eyelids, and they do get better with age, that is how we get those classics.  I love the idea, that I could be forever 28 in someone's mind, never mind younger I will take the 28!  Yup, and the beat goes on.  Good one Dad!

Well you made my day. Shared that with my wife and we're still glowing. Thanks a bunch!

Yes indeed, you put a big smile on my face! Bless kind friend. That was fun.

Magnus,
Thank you dear sir. I owe you a visit and more. Much obliged.

James,
You're the man. Thanks.

Reg!
Am I in heaven? Is that really you? Dang that felt good. Weren't we in the middle of a duet or somthin'? And thank you a ton!

kaile,
I can't hide anything from you! I thought i was writing prose. And ran out steam as soon as I started. So I just kept hitting the return key until it looked like free verse! You're too funny. I'm busted again. Thanks for being here.

Ruth,
Bless you. In fact, twice.

If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane, I'd walk right up to heaven and bring you home again.
