I'm tired of riding into the sunsets-
All the happy endings are gone.
Somebody else gets the lady,
And I ride into the sunset alone.

I liked it while back in my twenties,
I needed no anchor around-
My body would still wake up rested,
After spending my nights on the ground.

The future back then looked so rosey,
That someday I'd have me a home,
But now looking back, in my fifties,
I find I'm too often alone.

I was thinking, if I could start over-
What are the things I would change?
Would I try to get more education?
Would I not live a life on the range?

Then I smile among my reminisces-
At the cowboys, and girls that I've known...
And decide that the price is a fair one,
There's worse things than riding alone...

I could have been tied to an office-
Soft hands never knowing a rope.
With a pallor like I'd been in prison...
Addicted to power, or dope.

Two cars, and a mortgage, three children...
And a wife that I never did see;
This way there's but one to account for...
The guy that I shave (meaning me).

There's no turning time to the rearwards,
No need for a person to try-
But I'm glad that I lived as a cowboy,
In my heart I'll be one till I die.

"But I'm glad that I lived as a cowboy,
In my heart I'll be one till I die."

And, you know I'm so glad you are one too!
Loved this cowboy...you know I do!
You keep writing them...we'll keep reading them.

John this is a great write.  Introspective and compelling.  But you will never be alone.  The sunsets, tumbleweed and trails will always be with you. And so will your horse!!!

believe in what your heart feels...
