I recall yesterday when the clock ticked
and chimed lazily on the wall of a house
small, yet comfortable to a child.

A place where imaginations flourished, where
trees seemed to touch clouds and fences were
far to high to hurdle over.

When baseballs only went a short distance
and the neighbors cat liked the sand box as
much as my shovel....Where wet sand formed
into caverns where demons and other vile
creatures awaited me.

A time when coal dotted the tracks of trains
that lumbered slowly through the yard, destined
to see the next sunrise, the light of an engine
lighting the room as I lay there listening, ever
listening...wanting to one day be one of them.

A life far more simple, where finances were managed
by the number of lemonades sold or....the number of
empty soda bottles collected and traded for a favorite
candy...Peanut Butter Logs...find them now ....

Yes, yesterday before the razor really had a blade in it
and soap shaved off a smooth face so easily.  When
bubbles covered you from head to toe and the tickles
of each one made you giggle.

When caramels were always in the bowl waiting and
pick up sticks was the thing.  Or when miniature cars
raced the rug and crashed into domino houses.

Tomorrow brings another year upon the child of old.
And each step seems just a little taller,   longer.  And
being called Sir isn’t always fun now...especially
from those who hated “Thirty”....several years ago.

But Thirty was only a few days ago, wasn’t it?

(Thank You VAS...for the inspire)

Barry...This is great...took me back to Shoots and Ladders...and as for pick up sticks, there is a restaurant chain in Calif. with that name.  I guess teatherball is still around, isn't it?  Thanks for the memories!

Happy Birthday tomorrow, Barry!  Mine was Saturday.  I went through similar ponderings....those ponderings stay longer than they used to and today they are still with me.  So I understand and appreciate your poem so much.  Have a splendid day tomorrow and year ahead.   ...jo

Oh Martie, we could fill up a book with
nostalgia of our yesterdays, couldn't we?
Glad I could give you a little touch of
your own...

Nancy,  thanx dear lady...you are a precious
gift to us all and all of your hugs shall
never be forgotten...

Jo...Yes,  I know....and I will have a good
day tomorrow...even as the cake comes with
fewer candles because the smoke alarm will
go off if we put them all on...and lighted
them...  Thank You.

Scorpio, you are correct,  for without them,
smiles might come less frequently,  and
memories would not fill our minds at moments
when we so dearly need that break.

Thank You,  and I hope so too...
