Talking to Myself

Which way to the river

So far   so far

The path
walks with you

A feather notices the breeze

The ribbon of sky
touches the mountain
small thoughts are caught in the tangles
that dot the ridges all bend and bough there

Too far

Distance is deceiving
Time is its brother

Bathe your feet in rocks
trust the bones of trees
they have captured the way
their flourish marks the path

Sit down with breath
without counting

Listen to air speak

The water runs free
in me

I am just a traveler looking for a home, finding I carry it around with me, and sometimes it's just too damn heavy.

The one thing I find most captivating about your work is your incredible ability to paint such pristine pictures with your words.  Your imagery is so spectacular that everytime I read your poems it's as if I'm sitting in a theatre watching it play out.  You have quite the talent for painting pictures.  Some say it's the most important ingredient.  I say it's the 2nd most important behind the message.  This poem has the best of both.  Well done.

Ah sweet Martie...this is so beautiful...
I won't pick and choose my favourite lines...
to do so would be an injustice.

Lovely, Martie!  They say that if you find a feather in your path then the "angels" are with you.
You have a wonderful gift and you use it well.

Thank you, Kevo, Nancy and Linda.  Helen, I pick up feathers all the time and have always felt they held a special meaning or message.  The other day I saw one in my yard and I let it stay on the grass rather then picking it up...that afternoon when I came home, the same feather was captured by a corner of my door mat.  I did pick it up then.

What a truly remarkable line -- and the same can be said for this poem, Martie -- very much enjoyed!   ......jo

Amazing, how the Muse comes
to comfort, and tantalize
with wayward thought
and dallied moments...

quote:
Distance is deceiving
Time is its brother

You are an old soul
in a young body...

ever young
ever wise.

I will do this.

I mean, right now.

Words like these are too deep to ignore, too urgent to delay, and too precious to lose.

This gave me chills... the type that comes when my eyes feast on words beyond compare. *S* Excellent!
