Yesterday's Benefits
By Larry Chadwick

Reflecting here on the edge of tomorrow,
I brace myself based on my yesterdays.
Life is less certain than it used to be,
It has changed me in so many ways.

Somber reflections do not dim my days,
Nor lessen the pleasures of my life.
Humor takes on a greater value,
To relieve the burdens of past strife.

Smiles still are just as present,
Though now they have more depth.
Laughter is more valuable,
As it helps me draw fresh breath.

Good memories inspire confidence,
To face the future as it nears.
But experience gifts us wisdom,
A compensation for our tears.

June 10, 2004

If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane, I'd walk right up to heaven and bring you home again.

Very well expressed, Larry. Words of wisdom and grace that can only come through the flames of adversity. Your strength is an inspiration to me, and your gentle spirit always reminds me to keep my focus where it belongs.

Yes, life is a learning process never done.  In our attempts to age gracefully we have tripped many times but never over the same crack in the sidewalk.  We learn to laugh at them and sometimes to cry because of them but always learning.  Somber memories - everyone has scars.  It's how we choose to dress them that facilitates our destiny.  Unless I missed the point, your message seems crystal clear.  Your poem flows very well and forces some introspection.  It forces me to ask myself how I am conducting myself in the dark when no one is watching and how I have lived and continue to live my life.  To that end I appreciate your poem more than you can understand.  Thank you for reminding me to look in the mirror often and stop to smell the roses.

Regards,

Kevin

M,
Dearest friend. I still wish you much courage, strength and perseverence. Thank you for you kindnesses.

Kevin,
And those who don't have scars just need to live a little longer. thank you for drawing so much meaning from my words. You are a fine addition to these blue pages. Thanks.
